Our kitchen at Edgcott House is really the heart of the home. With over 30 years experience as a chef, Penny has a real passion for good food prepared with care using seasonal produce. We believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we’ll ensure that you get your day off to the best start possible with a fantastic selection of home cooked delights.

Our philosophy is to serve top quality food using the finest local ingredients to create wide ranging and varied menus. We are surrounded by fantastic produce and we believe in buying locally wherever possible.

Local, sustainably sourced food

We believe in buying the best but we also believe in buying locally; we buy very locally whereever and whenever possible. We use the village shop for fantastic produce including butter, cream and fresh vegetables such as asparagus and mushrooms and beautiful fish such as smoked trout & our neighbours in the village supply us with eggs and blueberries when in season. We grow all of our herbs in our lovely garden, as well as seasonal fruit such as rhubarb and gooseberries.

Our Breakfast Menu

As a trained and experienced chef, Penny is excited by food and changes the menus on a daily basis with new and innovative options based on the produce available.

We have both savoury and sweet daily specials such as Bubble and Squeak with Crisp Smoked Streaky Bacon, topped with a Poached Egg or Plum and Pecan waffles with lashings of maple syrup. Of course, there are some firm favourites which are available every day such as crunchy home-made muesli, with dried fruit, nuts and healthy grains. Our delicious fresh fruit smoothies, made with local seasonal fruits packed full of goodness.

And of course, a full English breakfast including the classics: Locally dry cured bacon, succulent sausages, home baked fried bread, oven roasted tomatoes, juicy Portobello mushrooms, black pudding, and free-range eggs, made any way you like, fresh from the neighbour’s chickens.

An equally delicious vegetarian Full English is also available, with Homemade Baked Beans, Griddled Avocado, Potatoes, Portobello Mushrooms, Oven Baked Tomatoes, and Eggs as you like them! We are happy to cater to your dietary requirements, ensuring that everyone can have a delicious breakfast! Our Suppliers

Our butcher - John May’s of South Molton

Our local butcher delivers all our premium quality meat to our door
All meat sold by John May Family Butcher is butchered, processed and prepared on site by a team that has over 130 years butchery experience between them. The bacon used for Edgcott Houses breakfast is dry cured on the premises and smoked bacon is prepared in their own smoker on their farm. We also get our delicious sausages and black pudding from John Mays.

Tea & Coffee - Miles of Minehead

Miles are a tea and coffee merchants based in West Somerset. Split between two sites, they taste, buy, blend and pack their own brand of tea, 'Miles Tea', in Minehead whilst their coffee is roasted, ground and packed in Porlock. A true family business with a passion for service and quality, Derek Miles began working in the tea trade in the City of London in the 1950’s. However, the business didn’t start with Derek who learnt the trade from his grandfather who started a blending business in Birmingham in 1888. The Miles’ passion for excellent tea and coffee remains today and this is reflected in their award winning products which are served every day at Edgcott House.

The Ultimate Fresh Juices - Bloomberry of Devon

We serve a range of delicious local juices everyday at Edgcott House from Bloomberry Juice company based in Devon
A small slightly mad company run by Chris and Sarah Jones nestled amongst the narrow lanes of Devon making amazing juices from natural ingredients and extract. Bloomsbury create amazing and delicious award winning juices by adding unique twists to classic juice combinations. For example, their Apple, Blueberry and Lavender juice is served at Edgcott House. Bloomburry juices contain only pressed fruit juices, no concentrates, no preservatives and no added sugar. Their juice is simply pasteurised gently to preserve their flavour. Like Penny, Chris and Sarah have a passion for local ingredients and most of their ingredients come from a stone throw away in the South West. You can try some Bloomberry juices when you stay at Edgcott - just check your menu for the flavours on offer!

Somerset Local work with Somerset Farmers' Markets and deliver straight to our door as a way of making local food available to everyone in Somerset. Their ethos is to provide the best quality local produce to your door in the most direct way without it visiting a load of warehouses first! After placing an order, Somerset Local collate all of their orders and get in touch with their "family" of suppliers to set in motion the gathering together of your order, which is boxed up and delivered to us at to serve you the best local breakfast possible each and every day!
